So I’m on this business trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Center of commerce. Really. No, really. Anyway, it’s a trip that I should have skipped seeing as how I was scheduled to be here for less than 24 hours and it’s been nothing but a hassle.
Last night we had to abort our landing about 10 feet from the runway (not really, but the landing gear was down and we pulled up at the last minute) due to a doozy of a thunder and lightning storm. Then we were diverted to Des Moines to refuel. Then we came back. So instead of landing at 9:30 pm, we landed at 11:45 pm. And, because flying is such a hassle these days making me choose to check my bag instead of pack in ziplocs, I had to wait for my bag for another 20 minutes. Then I had to wait another 25 minutes for a cab to come from downtown and get me – you know, because it’s such a center of commerce.
To top it all off I had the room that not only faced the train tracks but was next to the vending machines. And I got no dinner but an apple and a bottle of water. Oh, and about 3.5 hours of sleep due to my early morning meeting.
Now I’m at the Cedar Rapids airport, or The Eastern Iowa Airport as it’s called, trying to get home. Trying to make a connecting flight in Denver that turns out to be the last flight to Seattle tonight. And this is what’s making me very slap happy…
Yep, that says we were supposed to leave at 6:30. But we didn’t. In fact I don’t really think we’re leaving at 7:45 either as we still don’t have a plane and it’s currently 7:35 pm. Not that it really matters at this point as the last flight to Seattle leaves Denver at 8:50 pm and we are so not making it. Sooo, now I’m really sorry that I checked my bag. Hopefully we get to Denver tonight as I’d rather be there than here. At least there I’m one short flight from home in the morning and there are plenty of open direct flights.
Ick.
Gosh! I hope you made it home in reasonable time. I can relate since from Idaho Falls we frequently have to connect through Salt Lake City and I usually have a 50/50 chance of major problems every time we travel. 75% if it’s Delta. This is why I try to drive anywhere within 15 hours distance, it can take me *longer* to fly!
